Garage Door Questions We Hear Often

Why won't my garage door close, or why does it reverse before closing?

Start with the safety sensors near the floor on each side of the door. If one is knocked out of line, dirty or blocked, the door will reverse. Wipe the lenses, clear anything in the way and check that both indicator lights are steady. If it still reverses, the opener's limit settings may need adjusting. Call us and we will sort it out.

My garage door won't open or is stuck halfway. What should I do?

Keep people and cars clear of the door and don't try to force it. Check that the opener has power and the wall lock is not on. If the door is stuck, don't pull the release cord with the door partly open, since it could drop. Call us and we will come out and make it safe.

How can I tell if a garage door spring is broken?

Common signs are a loud bang from the garage, a visible gap in the torsion spring above the door, or a door that feels very heavy or won't lift more than a few inches. Stop using the opener and call us.

Can I replace a torsion spring myself?

We don't recommend it. Torsion springs are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury. Torsion springs sit on a bar above the door, while extension springs run along the horizontal tracks. A technician can tell which your door has and replace them safely, in pairs where needed.

How much does garage door spring replacement cost in St. Louis?

It depends on your door's size and weight, the type of spring and the parts needed. We give you an upfront, flat-rate price before we start work. Call (314) 766-4292 to talk through your door.

Should I repair or replace my garage door?

Repair usually makes sense when the problem is a spring, cable, roller or opener and the door is otherwise in good shape. Replacement is worth considering when several panels are damaged, the door is worn out or the look no longer suits your home. We offer free estimates on new door installation through December 19, 2026.

My opener hums or clicks but the door doesn't move. What's wrong?

This often points to a broken spring or a problem with the opener's gear or drive. Blinking lights on LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie units can also point to sensor or safety issues. Don't keep pressing the button, since that can damage the opener. Call us to have it checked.

My garage door is off track or a cable came off. Is it safe to use?

No. Stop using the door and the opener. Off-track doors and loose cables can fall or jam, and further use can bend the door or damage the opener. We can repair the cable or realign the door.

Why is my garage door loud, and can you program my remote or keypad?

Grinding or squeaking often means worn rollers, dry hinges or loose hardware, and a tune-up can fix it. We also program remotes and keypads for common opener brands.

Do you replace the rubber seal on the bottom of the door?

Yes. A worn bottom seal or weather stripping lets in drafts, water and pests, and costs you heat in winter. We replace garage door weather seals.
